Mental Health in Young People

Alex Newman just published an article for Liberty Sentinel that according to a poll, nearly all of California young adults have experienced “mental health challenges” in the past month. The mainstream answer? If a child is predetermined environmentally over eons of evolution, there is of course nothing that can fundamentally change him. We just manipulate his behavior. Drugs do a fine job of that. Make big pharma richer. Sell more psychotropic drugs.

This condition is not accidental. Schools have for decades traded rational training of the mind for affective psychology. Affective psychology appeals to feelings. Appealing to feelings feeds the young person’s natural disposition to sinful and self-destructive response. After generations of a wrong view of man feeding the school system, few people are left properly to educate the young. The result? Young people are no longer equipped for the difficulties of life, let alone have a sense of purpose.

The answer lies clearly with a restoration of the Biblical view that made this country in the first place. The child is born with inherent value and purpose. Sin scrambles the faculties. Education is God’s provided remedy. Unscramble the faculties with skill-driven training. Teach the child that God is his true answer and ought to be his first resort.

Teach the child a practical and overcoming faith to answer the difficulties of learning. Don’t worry about results. Just as God honors the farmer’s efforts in investing by faith, He alone can bring the fruit. Just so in learning. Child, you can do this with good help. Trust Jesus.

A child raised up with this ethos is ready for the challenges of real life without despair. More importantly, the routine practice of trusting God prepares him for his converting salvation in due season.

Godly education is central to any individual quality of life and eternal blessing. Moreover, it is the key to the foundation of society, God’s means toward mankind’s salvation.
