In response to a pretty good presentation on the Christian history of Idaho State government: Command (fiat) government schools will always pique religious and political controversy. That is because state schooling is wrong at root. A non-covenantal, command-based school system defies the Biblical requirement that families be responsible for and in authority over a child’s education (Deut 6). Privatizing with Levitical-like provision for those who cannot afford private schooling. Godly education requires godly representatives to the family upon a relational basis. Levites, supported by 90% of the Biblical tithe were the educators under God’s OT system. In a kingdom of priests, as we now are, the tithe properly divides, with other ministries, among tested private educators who accurately represent the Christian home.
Moreover, when civil government offers any service, it takes interest in, and skews and manipulates the free-market, prejudicing and corrupting its one real purpose–equal justice under law.
Lastly, centralized education by a self-serving civil government is the most sure-fire way to create subjects dependent upon and run by the government, rather than producing citizens capable of supporting a Biblical, relational (republican) form of self-government, as even the US Constitution itself guarantees to the states.
