Over the decades, through home school conventions and other gatherings, I have observed that nearly all commercial home school curricula are rooted in behavioral psychology rather than in Biblical relational truth. They are often fragmented, topics appearing unrelated. They rarely address the deeper needs of training faith, fostering understanding, unifying all knowledge, nurturing wisdom, or equipping students with real-life skills. I have spoken at CHEA and ACSI conventions, where, unfortunately, the available materials often felt like a wasteland—essentially secular and often not much different from state schooling of the 1950s and 60s.
Most commercial curricula heavily appeal to the senses, but true education should engage the mind, imagination and heart, and center on God and His Son. Godly curriculum should use Biblical methodology corresponding to the truth of our creation in His image but fallen in sin. Yet, I have found that with proper training, people of almost any background or ability can effectively teach these essential qualities using almost any curriculum.
That is not to say superior curricula do not exist. They do. My primary contribution is providing the training that empowers teachers to rise above the limitations of any curriculum. The next best contribution I can offer is methodology and curriculum that truly address the Biblical fundamentals of learning.
